Fifteen schools in the Socorro Independent School District earned local, state and national student council awards from the Texas Association of Student Councils and the National Association of Student Councils.
The student councils were awarded merits that range from local, state, and national levels for a variety of activities and contributions that they have made as a team to their campuses and community.
Five elementary school student councils won Texas Association of Student Councils awards for Outstanding Student Council; Community Service; Drug, Alcohol, Safety, and Health issues; Energy and Environment; Pride and Patriotism; or Sweepstakes, which means they won in all five TASC project areas. Three middle/PK8 schools won the TASC Outstanding Student Council, Sweepstakes & Community Service Awards.
At the high school level, SISD high schools won TASC and NASC awards. Six of the schools won the National Gold Council of Excellence from the National Student Council. This honor recognizes and celebrates student councils that meet high standards and demonstrate evidence of student service, leadership, voice, and engagement.
