Dear Socorro ISD Community,

It is a privilege to serve as the acting superintendent for the Socorro Independent School District because to me it is more than a school district. It is like family, and it is home. Socorro ISD is where I started my career in education as a teacher at Hueco Elementary School in 1995 and where I developed in the profession as a leader in public education. Having served in the district for more than 20 years, I have been fortunate to have worked alongside countless amazing SISD educators who have always provided the best education for all students in our outstanding district.

The long legacy of success and service for students and families in the Socorro community continues strong to this day. I am proud to be leading SISD with our highly qualified faculty and staff providing endless opportunities for students to excel academically, athletically, in fine arts and extracurricular activities in safe learning environments. We are guided by our vision to ensure our students are Tomorrow’s Leaders Learning Today.

From their start in Pre-K and all the way until they earn their diplomas, Socorro ISD students are being prepared for a lucrative future and to emerge from our schools as confident, knowledgeable and skilled graduates. SISD students can seize their opportunities in a wealth of courses and programs, including free early childhood education, unique elementary academies, dual credit and early college programs, innovative Career and Technical Education, championship athletics and award-winning fine arts programs in world-class facilities.

Driving the student achievement in all our schools is our extraordinary SISD teachers, support staff and administrators. Our faculty and staff are consistently recognized for delivering innovative instruction and elevating their craft. We also have a remarkable community of parents, volunteers and Partners in Education who support our efforts to help all students achieve their highest potential. This community collaboration unites us as we all work together for the good of our students and schools.

The family legacy also runs deep in Socorro ISD with numerous generations having attended our schools and scores of families who live and work in the district. I understand that firsthand as my wife worked for more than 20 years in the district and my son is a graduate of Americas High School. Socorro ISD has always been good to me and my family. I know the district means a lot to many people as it does for me and my family, which is why I am fully dedicated to leading Socorro ISD to successfully serve all students and ensure our schools are the best in the region and state.

Thank you for your dedication and support of Socorro ISD. Like a family and as a team, we will move forward through the challenges and triumphs, leaning on one another with a determined resolution to provide the rigorous and relevant education and high-quality service all students and families deserve. In Team SISD, we are better together, and we are all in to continue our long tradition of academic excellence and overall success.

Sincerely,

James P. Vasquez
Interim Superintendent
