Student in the Dual Language class

The Socorro Independent School District will have Dual Language Academy Parent Information Nights March 21, April 2, 4, 11, 16 at Myrtle Cooper Elementary, Bill Sybert School, Hueco Elementary, Dr. Sue A. Shook Elementary and the SISD District Service Center, respectively.

The event is for parents who are interested in enrolling their child in the innovative dual language program in SISD. The program is available at four campuses: Myrtle Cooper Elementary, Bill Sybert School, Hueco Elementary and Dr. Sue A. Shook Elementary.

Applications for upcoming 4-year-old Pre-K students are being accepted. Upcoming students in kindergarten and first grade also may apply to be added to the current wait list. The enrollment process for the academy is based on various criteria and a lottery system.

The SISD Dual Language Academy teaches students to become bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish through rigorous instruction and multicultural experiences. The program provides dual language students the

resources necessary to be academically, socially, and linguistically successful in both English and Spanish to become globally competitive citizens.

Benefits of being a dual language learner include proficiency and literacy in both languages, high levels of academic achievement, greater creativity, attention to detail, problem solving skills, and confidence.
