Sienna Nuno smiling at campus

Sienna Nuno is fearless in seizing new opportunities. A straight A student at Eastlake High School, Sienna, a senior, is on track to graduate in the top 6% of her class next spring from the school’s Falcon Early College. In addition to her rigorous studies, Sienna is captain of Eastlake’s competition cheer team and a student council representative, and in May, she was crowned Miss El Paso Teen USA 2023.

“I try to stay involved as much as possible,” said Sienna, who plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin in 2024. “It's important to make sure that you're putting yourself out there and involving yourself with others. It’s also important that we kind of highlight ourselves to be able to highlight the school.”

In recognition of her outstanding accomplishments, Sienna was selected to recite the Pledge of Allegiance at the Socorro ISD’s Board of Trustees regular meeting in August.

Sienna has enjoyed the spotlight since she was a baby competing in pageants and modeling contests starting when she was two years old.

Walking on stage and speaking in front of an audience bolstered Sienna’s confidence and empowered her to become the best version of herself by taking advantage of the many opportunities SISD has to offer.

"Eastlake High School and SISD is a place to grow, it's a place of acceptance, and the opportunities are really endless," Sienna said. "I think that we are given so many seeds to be able to grow and succeed in life and to be able to go so far. There are so many role models, like teachers and staff, and I think the entire school district is doing a really great job."

Sienna has attended schools in the Socorro Independent School District all her life, starting at Horizon Heights Elementary, then Col. John O. Ensor Middle School, and finally, Eastlake High School.

She honed her tumbling skills at each school as a cheerleader, learning discipline, teamwork, and goal setting. A member of Eastlake’s varsity and competitive cheerleading team, Sienna has performed at some of the nation’s most prestigious cheerleading competitions such as the Summit Cheer Championships and National Cheerleaders Association National Championship.

Deana Star, Eastlake’s cheerleading coach, said Sienna not only possesses strong athletic abilities, but she also has the leadership qualities to lead the school’s competitive cheer team this year.

“When you have a phenomenal student like Sienna, she really is the total package,” Star said. "We need strong leadership as well as exceptional talent not only to lead the way in skill but just someone to boost team morale and positively influence some of our other girls who have not quite yet gone to competition."

When she is not cheerleading or making public appearances as Miss El Paso Teen, Sienna is hard at work on her studies. As a student in Falcon Early College, Sienna is on course to earn her associate degree in multidisciplinary studies from El Paso Community College in December. Her goal is to attend UT Austin’s McCombs School of Business and study public relations, marketing and business. She also hopes to join the university’s cheer and pom squads. An aspiring entrepreneur, Sienna plans to help small businesses grow and become successful.

Off stage, Sienna uses her crown to promote her platform raising awareness about body positivity and self-motivation. She hopes to help other teenagers build self-confidence by living a healthy lifestyle and encouraging them to do things that make them feel good from the inside out.

Although she may be busy with her studies, athletic events, volunteer work and Miss El Paso Teen appearances, Sienna is looking forward to a fantastic senior year.

"I know it will be super busy, but I think I'll do well with balancing it all as long as I keep my head in the game, and with the support I have, I think I'll do great,” Sienna said.
