High school students and their parents are invited to attend the 2023-2024 Socorro ISD FAFSA Nights on various dates through Nov. 9 at SISD high schools.
Trained representatives will be available to assist parents and students in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
By completing the application for financial aid, students can have access to opportunities such as grants, work-study, and student loans.
“Completing the FAFSA process is very important for each Team SISD student,” said Tammi Mackeben, SISD director of guidance and counseling. “To receive any federal student aid for higher education, a FAFSA application must be completed. Cost is one of the biggest barriers for students in attending post-secondary education and we want to make sure that each family has an opportunity to receive as much aid as possible.”
The FAFSA application window opened on Oct. 1. Mackeben said the earlier families apply for FAFSA, the higher chances students have of receiving financial assistance for their post-secondary education.
Alma Barrios, head counselor at Pebble Hills High School, said the high school has had a successful turnout for FAFSA nights in previous years and emphasized the importance of applying for federal aid.
“Information and resources about the types of aid to help pay for post-secondary education and training will be provided,” Barrios said. “We encourage students and parents to attend to receive one-on-one assistance. We look forward to working with you and your child!”
It is important to note that FAFSA completion is now a graduation requirement per the state of Texas.
Parents and students must complete their FSA ID prior to attending a FAFSA night and parents will need a copy of their most recent tax return in order to apply.
