Community viewing art and art winners with prizes

Employees in the Socorro Independent School District showcased their artistic talent at the 2022 SISD Employee Art Show.

There were 68 entries in this year's show, representing 27 campuses and departments throughout the district.

Armando Martinez, SISD Director for Fine Arts, said there are many talented employees in the district and the art show is a great opportunity to invite them to participate and showcase their skills.

“You don't have to be an art teacher or study art to do art, it’s important to do it because it’s what you love and it's a part of who you are, which is also an important message for our students,” Martinez said.

There was an array of media showcased, including ceramics, acrylic paintings, mixed media, photography, and found object art.

The contest recognized one individual for ‘Best in Show’ and three top place winners for the 2022 SISD Employee Art Show.

Samuel Munoz from Americas High School was named “Best in Show,’ Lidia Avila from Socorro High School won first place, Miguel Picos from El Dorado High School won second place, and Bianca Sanchez from William D. Slider Middle School placed third.

Americas High School art teacher Samuel Munoz said he was glad to be able to showcase his art piece that celebrated and honored his loved ones who have passed.

“SISD is a great place to be because they give us so many opportunities, like the employee art show to display our work,” Munoz said.
