The SISD Foundation Excellence in Education had its annual golf tournament to raise funds for student scholarships Oct. 7 at Butterfield Trail Golf Club.
The celebrated golf tournament is the biggest fundraiser for the foundation and a popular golfing event in the community. It attracts many supporters and sponsors from around the El Paso region and the state who step up each year to assist SISD students with the financial means to pursue their higher education.
“We are fortunate that we have a supportive education foundation at Socorro ISD that raises tons of money to give scholarships to our graduating students,” said SISD superintendent of schools Nate Carman, Ed.D. “Thank you to you all.”
The SISD Foundation scholarship program provides scholarships each year to help high school students continue their education in colleges and universities of their choice and help them embark on future careers.
This year, the Foundation raised a record-breaking amount, more than $170,000 for the scholarship funds from close to 150 participants from 37 teams in the tournament.
The amount far surpasses the amount raised in 2021, the first golf tournament after returning from the pandemic.
“I am just ecstatic with what we were able to raise today because those scholarships are priceless to those students,” said Susan Hill, president of the SISD Foundation Excellence in Education. “This support right here is what makes SISD a family.”
Robert Linzey from PC Automated Controls said the company has always tried to support the Socorro Independent School District at their events, particularly the golf tournament.
“It’s great to support students by providing them with the funds to obtain scholarship all while having a little bit of fun,” he said.
Many employees from various departments came together to make the annual fundraiser a success, along with the SISD Education Foundation members, and other volunteers.
“We have so many deserving students in SISD, and it is a pleasure to support the fundraising efforts of the SISD Foundation golf tournament,” said Veronica Bolanos, executive administrative specialist for the assistant superintendent of schools. “By providing scholarships for our hardworking students, we are growing success in our community.”
