SISD among 12 districts showcased for innovative, successful program
The Socorro Independent School District’s Teacher Residency Program has been recognized as an outstanding program in the Texas School Business magazine’s 16th Annual Bragging Rights 2022-23 special issue.
Bragging Rights, which calls for nominations and is published every December, recognizes school districts that have implemented programs that are bettering the lives of Texas’ students, schools, and communities.
“We are extremely proud of the groundbreaking achievement we’ve seen with our teacher residency program,” said SISD Superintendent Nate Carman, Ed.D. “Our academics team has been working diligently and mindfully with principals, mentor teachers, teacher residents, and UTEP College of Education to produce tremendous results. I’m proud of our team’s amazing dedication, thankful for our partnership with UTEP, and honored to be featured as part of this year’s Texas School Business ‘Bragging Rights.’”
SISD’s Teacher Residency Program is one of 12 pioneering programs in Texas public schools featured in the magazine.
Launched in 2019 in partnership with The University of Texas at El Paso, the Teacher Residency Program immerses student teachers for an academic year in a classroom where they gain hands-on experience co-teaching alongside an experienced mentor teacher. Each resident earns a stipend from the school district.

- Hutto ISD, Automotive Technology program
- Irving ISD, engineering students create a prosthetic arm
- Northside ISD, Strong Fathers + Strong Children = Strong Families
- Pewitt CISD, Supporting Educator Excellence Daily
- Aransas County ISD, Maritime Science CTE
- Splendora ISD, Realtor Lunch & Learn
“Nominations for school district programs across Texas poured in this year, and each one deserves to be noticed,” said Texas School Business Editorial Director Dacia Rivers. “It’s our hope that the 12 districts we chose inspire others to follow in their footsteps.
