Americas, Pebble Hills and Socorro student athletes that signed

Student-athletes from the Socorro Independent School District’s Class of 2023 signed letters of intent in November indicating their commitment to continuing their academic and athletic careers at the collegiate level next year.

Parents, family members, coaches, teammates and friends cheered as student-athletes from Americas, Pebble Hills and Socorro high schools received athletic scholarships to play baseball and continue their education at colleges and universities of their choice. Congratulations to these outstanding student-athletes!

Americas High School

Gael Bernal signed with Luna Community College, where he will study business. Bernal is a two-year letterman in baseball. He was named 2022 All-District Infielder.

“Being given the opportunity to continue to play baseball is a dream,” Bernal said. “I’m very excited to continue this journey and to start a new chapter of my life.”

Santana Hernandez signed with New Mexico Junior College, where he will major in kinesiology. Hernandez is a three-year letterman in baseball who has been named an All-District Catcher. Hernandez has played on the New York Yankees scout team.

“I’d also like to thank all my coaches for the lessons they taught me on and off the field and I’m filled with nothing but gratitude for them,” Hernandez said.

Easton Moomau signed with the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley, where he will major in exercise science and kinesiology. Moomau is a three-year letterman whose accolades include All-District and All-City third baseman. During the off-season, Moomau was a member of the New York Yankees scout team.

“I’d like to thank my parents for always doing whatever it took to get me to practice, workouts, tournaments and games, and always pushing me to be great,” Moomau said.

Adrian Quintana signed with El Paso Community College, where he will study automotive technology. Quintana has been named an All-District Outfielder.

“To my past and present coaches who have seen me grow not only as a player but as a person, thank you for all the endless opportunities,” Quintana said.

Stephen Sepulveda signed with Baylor University, where he will study health, kinesiology and leisure studies. Sepulveda is a three-year letterman in baseball. His accolades include All-District and All-City pitcher. Sepulveda is listed by Perfect Game as the 11th ranked pitcher in the state of Texas and 39th overall.

“First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude to my parents for their love and endless support throughout my life and baseball career,” Sepulveda said.

Pebble Hills High School

Dylan Torres signed with California State University in Sacramento, Calif., where he will major in kinesiology. During his baseball career, he earned First Team All-District Outfielder. Torres is a multisport athlete who also played basketball in his high school career and accolades include 1st Team All-Defensive player his sophomore year and 2nd Team All-District his junior year.

“I’m excited to play at the next level to represent my family, the school and El Paso,” Torres said. “I also look forward to earning my education.”

Socorro High School

Jesus Pablo Rodriguez signed with the University of the Southwest in Hobbs, N.M., where he will study psychology. Rodriguez is a four-year varsity player. He was a starter for three years and he is the team’s leadoff hitter.  He is a right-handed pitcher, second baseman and occasional outfielder.  Rodriguez is a tenacious player, who was named 2nd team All-District pitcher last year as a junior.

“I couldn’t have done this without my family, and I’m so excited because I see that I have a big support system here, and that’s what it’s all about,” Rodriguez said. “An athlete needs a support system to be able to keep moving up in life.”
