High schools in the Socorro Independent School District celebrated the homecoming season with football games, parades and many other festivities that helped ignite school spirit for the 2022-23 school year. Read below to see the various homecoming celebrations that took place throughout the district.

Americas High School

Americas High School homecoming parade

The Americas High School Trailblazers celebrated their 2022 Homecoming from Sept. 12 - 16 with the theme “A Journey Through Wonderland.” Their homecoming parade was Sept. 14, with a carnival following the parade in the school’s courtyard. The Trailblazers faced off against the Franklin High School Cougars for their homecoming game Sept. 16 at the SAC. The homecoming dance was Sept. 17 in the school’s cafeteria.

“It’s nice to be out here supporting the community and Americas High School,” said Raul Lopez, a parent at Americas High School. “My son is a junior on the baseball team so it’s important to be out here showing support.”

Jonathan Chavez, a parent of students at Sierra Vista Elementary and Capt. Walter E. Clark Middle School, said his family just moved into the area and wanted to attend the event to immerse themselves into the community.

“The community was a huge factor of why we moved to the area,” Chavez said. “The people here are like family, and we want to be a part of it.”

Eastlake High School

Eastlake High School homecoming parade

The Eastlake High School Falcons celebrated their 2022 Homecoming from Sept. 6 - 9 with the theme “Back to the 90’s.” Their homecoming parade was Sept. 7, with a community pep rally following the parade in the school’s main field. The Falcons played the El Dorado High School Aztecs at their homecoming game Sept. 9 at the SAC. The homecoming dance was Sept. 10 on the school’s outdoor patio.

Jesus Beltran is a parent of students at Eastlake High School and at Col. Ben Narbuth Elementary School.

“This is our first homecoming since our daughter is a freshman and we are pretty happy and excited,” Beltran said. “It’s great to be out here together with the community to support the kids.”

Giana Virgen, a junior at Eastlake High School, was out on the sidelines of her school's parade to cover the event for her audio and video club.

“I can’t wait to see the floats and teams pass through,” Virgen said. “It’s great to see the school come together as one.”

El Dorado High School

El Dorado Homecoming Parade

The El Dorado High School Aztecs celebrated their 2022 Homecoming Oct. 18 - 21 with the theme “Aztec Fright Nights.” Their homecoming parade was Oct. 20, with the celebration of the “Birth of the Aztec Sun” following the parade in the school’s south parking lot. The Aztecs played the Socorro High School Bulldogs at their homecoming game Oct. 21 at the SAC. The homecoming dance was Oct. 22 in the school’s courtyard.

“Events, like homecoming, hype them up for their season, which is about to start, and it gets the community involved and builds great school culture,” said Denee Munoz, a parent of a sophomore student and basketball athlete at El Dorado High School.

Amy Vasquez, junior at El Dorado High School, said seeing everyone’s school spirit being displayed was super fun to watch.

“The theme for our float was pixie fairies and we all came together to make it look pretty,” Vasquez said. “These events are important because they bring everyone together.”

Mission Early College High School

MECHS students at homecoming celebration

Mission Early College High School celebrated its 2022 Homecoming Sept. 19 – 23 with the theme “MECHS Masquerade.” Their homecoming pep rally was Sept. 22 in the school’s faculty parking lot. The homecoming dance was Sept. 23 at Crystal Palace Ballroom.

Janine Mariscel, a senior at Mission Early College who was named homecoming queen, said she was nervous and excited for the celebration.

“Homecoming this year, as a senior, is bittersweet,” Mariscel said. “We are a small campus and today just shows how close we’ve all grown to each other.”

Mission Early College senior Catalina Faudoa shared similar sentiments of nostalgia as she watched her peers laugh, sing and play with excitement in color chalk.

“This is my last homecoming, so it is a very overwhelming feeling because I’m sad seeing everyone go but I'm also happy to be moving forward to a new chapter,” Faudoa said.

Montwood High School

Montwood High School homecoming parade

The Montwood High School Rams celebrated their 2022 Homecoming Sept. 26 – 30 with the theme “The Magic World of Montwood.” Their homecoming parade was Sept. 28, with a carnival following the parade in the school’s student parking lot. The Rams played the Franklin High School Cougars at their homecoming game Sept. 29 at the SAC. The homecoming dance was Sept. 30 in the school’s courtyard.

Olivia Sanchez, a sophomore at Montwood High School and dancer, was excited to participate in the parade with her fellow dancers dressed in attire from the Disney movie “Coco.’

“This is super exciting because this is my first time walking in the parade with the team,” Sanchez said. “This is a very special week for us, so it means a lot for the community to be out here supporting us.”

Nicole Alvillar, a parent of a junior at Montwood High School and a SISD employee in the special education department, said community involvement is crucial to student success.

“Today is very important for the students to see that the community is here to support and encourage them,” Alvillar said. “Hopefully, it helps them carry on throughout the rest of the semester.”

Pebble Hills High School

Pebble Hills High School homecoming parade

The Pebble Hills High School Spartans celebrated their 2022 Homecoming Sept. 19 - 23 with a Disney theme. Their homecoming parade was Sept. 21. The Spartans played the Coronado High School Thunderbirds in their homecoming game Sept. 23 at the SAC. The homecoming dance was Sept. 24 in the school’s courtyard.

Robert Ontiveros, a senior at Pebble Hills High School and a baseball athlete, said seeing the community growth since his freshman year was the most exciting part for him.

“It’s great to see the culture grow,” Ontiveros said. “I’m sad to leave it but happy for future generations.”

Trisha Billingsley, a parent within the Pebble Hills feeder, said it was exciting to see the community come together to support all the students in one big celebration.

“It’s a great event for all the family to come out and enjoy,” Billingsley said. “I think it’s important to show support to make the students more excited about being involved.”

Socorro High School

The Socorro High School Bulldogs celebrated their 2022 Homecoming with Sept. 12 - 16 with the theme "Around the World.” Their homecoming parade was Sept. 15, with a pep rally following the parade from at the school. The Bulldogs faced off against the Montwood High School Rams for their homecoming game Sept. 16 at the SAC. The homecoming dance was Sept. 17 in the school’s new cafeteria.

Daisy Lujan, a sophomore and Health Professions Academy student at Socorro High School, said it feels good to see everyone who came out to show their support.

“It’s important for everyone to be out here as a community and as a school,” Daisy Lujan, a sophomore and Health Professions Academy student at Socorro High School. “It feels good to see everyone excited and united.”

Alex Anaya, parent of students at Socorro High School and at Socorro Middle School, was out early to get a good view of the parade with his family.

“It’s important to be out here to support these kids and stand behind them so that they can succeed,” Anaya said.
