SISD maintenance and operations staff receiving coveralls

As temperatures dropped in late October, 25 grounds employees in the Socorro Independent School District’s maintenance and operations department received cold weather coveralls to help them stay warm and protected while working outside during the winter months.

Smiling employees thanked Linda Salas, risk management safety officer in the SISD Human Resources department, as she handed them the blue one-piece coveralls in appreciation for their hard work.

“They’re a critical component of what team SISD is,” said Mario Carmona, SISD director of employee benefits and risk management. “With events like this, we remind them how important they are and how important safety is.”

SISD grounds foreman Mark Carrillo said grounds employees work hard throughout the year to maintain and care for the district’s 50 campuses.

“They’re always outside in the elements whether it be the cold, the heat, the wind, the rain,” Carrillo said. “And something like this is very special to them. I think that they’re all very happy that they’re receiving something from the district, and it will always help them do their job a little bit better.”
