The Socorro Independent School District Board of Trustees approved boundary adjustments for a portion of the John Drugan School and Loma Verde Elementary School community at the Feb. 23, 2023, regular school board meeting. The change will go into effect for the 2023-2024 school year.

Students who reside in those portions of the impacted communities will now attend the newest schools in the district – Ben Narbuth Elementary School and Eastlake Middle School.

Implementing the boundary adjustments is a proactive measure to help in balancing enrollment and ensuring all students are receiving equitable education in optimal learning environments across the district.

“As our enrollment increases, we remain committed to giving students and staff the best spaces to learn and work,” said SISD Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services Andrea Cruz. “We carefully explored the best options for the boundary adjustments, listened to stakeholders in the district, and strived to balance campus populations to best serve our students, families and schools.”

During the boundary adjustment process, the district conducted in-person and virtual public meetings for students, parents, staff members, and community members to learn more about the proposed adjustments. The meetings gave SISD stakeholders an opportunity to provide feedback and ask questions regarding the plans.
