Students at Cactus Trails Elementary School and their families partook in the school's Wellness Wheel Day during the students' PE classes on March 1.
Cactus Trails PE coach Erica Armijo said that she hopes with the seasons changing that the wellness event will encourage students to spend more time outside while practicing things like pedestrian safety.
“I want them to have a good time and be safe,” Armijo said. “We want the families to come out here and get involved in their child’s health and wellness. If the kids are healthy and physically active, they are likely to learn better in the classroom.”
Parents could participate one on one and observe their children riding bikes and scooters and rolling around on skateboards and roller skates during their daily physical activity.
Ashley Ceniceros, a parent of a second-grade student at Cactus Trails, said she enjoyed seeing the students, parents and family spending time outdoors together.
“Being healthy is important in the long run as students are facing a lot now a days. So, them being able to come out and blow off some steam while they play with their friends is great,” Ceniceros said.
Students in kindergarten through fifth grade were able to wheel around with their parents and friends and navigate their way through obstacle courses, all while enjoying refreshing snacks.
“Today makes me feel happy because I got to go outside and have fun with my friends and family in the fresh air,” said Adelynn Bransford, a second-grade student at Cactus Trails.
Jacob Mann, a fourth-grade student at Cactus Trails, said he was excited for the opportunity to be outside and more physically active.
“Today is super fun to be out here riding my bike,” Mann said. “I enjoyed doing the obstacle courses.”
