SISD Destination Imagination students with awards

Fourteen teams proudly represented the Socorro Independent School District at the 2023 Destination Imagination Lone Star Finals in March in Arlington, Texas.

Four elementary teams, five middle school teams and five high school teams competed in six different challenges against teams from across the state.

Students showed their talents and creativity in technical, science, fine arts, improv, engineering, and service-learning based challenges.

At the state competition, three of the SISD teams won and qualified for the 2023 Destination Imagination Global Finals in May in Kansas City, Missouri. The winning teams were the Hello Kitty Krew from Socorro High School, the Gingies from Hurshel Antwine Middle School and the Contributing Chicas from Sun Ridge Middle School.

The Destination Imagination Global Finals is a worldwide competition where students will have the chance to meet other students from around the globe.

“I'm extremely excited about the opportunity these students will have,” Advanced Academics Coordinator Stephanie Carrasco said. “As a DI alum, I can attest that these students will be making memories that will last a lifetime.”

The competition allows students to flex their creativity and compete with some of the best students in the DI circuit. While working on their challenges, students explore STEAM concepts while developing skills such as perseverance and responsibility and letting their ingenuity drive the path to their final product.
