The Special Education Department provides service and support to campuses and students, so students receive a free and appropriate education in the least restrictive environment. In addition to instructional services, related services are also provided to students who have an identified need.

SPED Parent Meeting - February 26, 2025
For SISD Parents/Guardians with students enrolled in Special Education.
You are invited to attend a virtual parent training with the Special Education Department team on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. The SPED Department Staff will provide parents with training titled, Fall In Love with Learning; Supporting Our Students with Engaging and Effective Instructional Strategies.
We will provide a virtual session in Spanish from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM and English from 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM. There will not be an in-person meeting this month.

Registrations will be accepted until 10:00 pm on February 25th.
Parent-Directed Special Education Services (PDSES)
The PDSES application is now open. The 2024-2025 school year application window opened on February 3rd and will be open until 5:00 pm CST on March 31, 2025. The Parent-Directed Special Education Services program is a one-time $1,500 online grant for parents/guardians of eligible students served by special education and who are enrolled in a Texas public school. The PDSES website is the best place to learn about the PDSES program.
Department Goals
Provide campuses and staff support for the inclusion of special education students in grade level instructional programs. The department will assist campuses in making appropriate decisions regarding state-mandated testing.
Provide support to the assessment staff in an effort to provide appropriate evaluations.
Provide opportunities for staff development so all personnel in the district will understand issues regarding students with disabilities.
Recognize areas of special need which must be considered. Support for campuses will be provided.
Provided with improved transitional supports as they prepare for adulthood.
Support and encourage campuses to provide services to students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment.
Provide Child Find opportunities.
Provide support to parents of students with disabilities.
Support Special Olympics-District and Regional.
Continue to grow and meet the needs of identified students.
Support the Compensatory Homebound program and the General Education Homebound program.
Meet the standards of the 504 program, meeting the needs of identified students.
Support the implementation of Response to Intervention.
