Texas law institutes new disciplinary action on student vaping, e-cigarette use
As of Sept. 1, 2023, the Socorro Independent School District is enforcing a new state law that prohibits the use of e-cigarettes on school premises and creates a more healthful learning environment for students.
Per House Bill 114, any student caught with a vaping device at a Socorro ISD campus may be temporarily placed in Keys Academy, as mandated by state law. Keys Academy serves as SISD’s Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP).
The health and safety of our students is a top priority at SISD. This new, stricter vaping policy will allow our district to promote a healthier, more supportive school environment that creates opportunities for the overall wellbeing and development of our students.
Parents are encouraged to support this endeavor by learning about e-cigarettes, talking to their children about the health risks associated with vaping and tobacco use, and emphasizing the importance of adhering to state law regarding vaping devices on school property.
