Montwood High School announced Ivan Rangel as the new head football coach and athletic coordinator Jan. 17 at the school.
“There are a lot of emotions running through my head,” Rangel said. “Being named head football coach is a dream come true.”
Rangel has been coaching since he was a student in college, and has served as a freshman coach, junior varsity coach, a defensive coordinator and was formally the defensive coordinator for the Montwood Rams football team.
He said as a coach he intends to implement a new defensive approach and continue the trajectory that the offensive has been on.
“We want people to know that Montwood football is back and here to win,” Rangel said.
The new head coach said that all the support he has received from the school, administration, staff, the students, and their families is what has enabled him to reach to this notable moment in his career.
Cameron Harrelson, a junior and football athlete at Montwood High School, said he believes the new leadership will bring improvements and discipline to the team.
“He is the kind of coach that everyone wants,” Harrelson said. “He is a big role model, and we have a lot of respect for him.”
