NJHS is an organization that represents five main characteristics. These include the following:

Scholarship means a commitment to learning.
Service-We are committed to the idea of volunteering our time and abilities to the creation of a better tomorrow.
Leadership-In taking the initiative in class and school activities, the real leader strives to train and aid others to attain the same objective.
Citizenship embodies the obligations each member of our society faces to live up to the democratic ideals given to us by the founders of our country.
Character is the force within each individual which distinguishes that person from others. By demonstrating such qualities as respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, care and citizenship, we may hope to prove by example that we value character.

Qualifications for membership:

1. Must exemplify the 5 characteristics of scholarship, service, leadership, citizenship and character.

2. Maintain a 90 percent academic average or higher in all courses

3. Must be involved in extracurricular activities in school and within the community

4. Must be willing to participate in service projects

5. Must fill out application for membership consideration (available in January)
