Collage of the thirteen SISD students that received Lone Star Leadership Academy

Thirteen exceptional Socorro Independent School District students spent a week of their summer vacation developing their leadership skills and visiting notable and historically significant sites in Texas, including NASA and the Texas State Capitol.

They were among 670 outstanding fourth to eighth grade students from across Texas who participated in Education in Action’s summer 2024 Lone Star Leadership Academy camps.

Nominated by educators, these students were selected for their demonstrated leadership ability, academic success, and involvement in school and community activities.

Students in fourth to sixth grade traveled to Dallas/Fort Worth, fifth to seventh-graders visited Austin/San Antonio, and sixth to eighth-grade students explored Houston/Galveston.

Participants toured notable Texas sites, learned about unique careers from professionals, and collaborated in small teams to enhance specific leadership skills.

In addition to honing their leadership abilities, participants gained self-confidence and independence and formed new friendships with other high-achieving students from across the state.
