Seven high school graduates from the Socorro Independent School District were awarded scholarships from the FirstLight Community Foundation. They were among 35 scholarship recipients from El Paso, Fort Bliss and Las Cruces, who were awarded $1,000 each to attend college.
“We are proud to support students from our region and are inspired by their excellence,” said FirstLight Federal Credit Union President and CEO Margie Salazar. “As they embark on their next chapter of education, I have no doubt that they will continue to shine brightly and make a significant impact in our community.”
Tammi Mackeben, Socorro ISD director of school counseling, congratulated SISD scholars for their diligence in applying for scholarships and for receiving awards.
“One of the largest barriers to achieving a postsecondary education is financial, and these students have taken the initiative to pursue money to start their journey,” Mackeben said. “We are proud of their accomplishments and are thankful to the FirstLight Community Foundation.”
The application process for the FirstLight Community Foundation scholarship program is not a traditional written essay format. Instead, applicants were able to showcase their passion and potential through a video submission.
