El Dorado High School

According to Texas State law, each student must be in attendance 90 percent of the days the class is offered.  The implementation of the Attendance for Credit Initiative is to ensure that all students are in attendance 90 percent of the time a class is offered to certify successful accrual of credit or final grade.

Purpose

Students who are passing their classes, but have excessive absences, will have the opportunity to restore credit or final grade for their classes by completing a principal’s plan.

Criteria

The Principal’s Plan to Restore Credit will be implemented for students whose attendance drops below 90 percent but is at least 75 percent of the days the class is offered.  The student must earn a passing grade and have completed all classwork and homework associated with excessive absences.

 Notifications

Preliminary Notification – When a student exceeds 5% absence rate of the days any class is offered, the campus will notify the parent/ guardian.

LOC Notification - When a student exceeds 10% absence rate of the days any class is offered, the parent/ guardian will be notified that their child may lose credit for the course due to attendance. However, the student may be eligible to participate in the principal’s plan.

 Principal Plan

Loss of Credit labs will be offered in the fall on Wednesdays from 4:15 pm – 6:15 pm and Saturdays 8 am- 12 pm. For the spring semester, we will offer LOC labs on Wednesday and Thursday from 4:15 pm – 6:15 pm and Saturdays from 8 am- 12. Please keep in mind that if a holiday lands on a Friday or Monday we will not have LOC lab that Saturday.

 Documentation

All documentation will be turned in to the Attendance Office/ LOC Specialist (attendanceeldorado@sisd.net). The Attendance administrator is Nancy Ojeda- nojeda@sisd.net.

Petition Process

Parents/students may file a petition for the Attendance Committee’s consideration. Petitions for credit or a final grade may be filed at any time notice is given, but in any event, no later than 30 days after the last day of class.  However, the principal may grant an earlier appeal to any student due to special circumstances. Seniors may appeal for credit in a course at any time during a grading period.
