Americas High School welcomed new wrestling coach, Roberto Garcia, to the Blazer Nation in November.

During the announcement in the school's rotunda, Garcia outlined his goals for the season, which included winning a district championship and competing at the state level.

“That's our number one goal,” Garcia said. “It's something that we've been instilling since I first got here, and the state is something that we really want and something I believe we can achieve together.”

Garcia is a graduate of Sul Ross University and has been coaching for eight years. Prior to joining Socorro ISD, he served as the head wrestling coach at Fabens High School, which is also his alma mater. Before that, Garcia coached at Horizon High School, where he played a key role in building the school's wrestling program from the ground up.

Garcia is confident that his past experience will help him and the Trailblazers succeed in the future.

"I feel that that experience, having to build things from the ground up, being around great, amazing people, learning from different coaches who are experienced, all of those things will help us achieve what we want to do here," Garcia said.

Noe Robles, Americas High School’s athletic coordinator and head football coach, said Garcia is well on his way to building a championship program at Blazer Nation. He believes that Garcia will not only help his students become excellent wrestlers but also outstanding individuals.

“I expect Coach Garcia to coach our kids hard and build relationships with them,” Robles said. “As coaches, we have a great opportunity to mentor young men and women outside of the daily skill development. Not only do we expect coaches to develop great athletes but also produce citizens within our learning community that are of high character, hardworking, and humble.”
