SYNERGI4 STEM and P-TECH Advanced Academy is a "school within a school" in Montwood High School, a comprehensive high school that opened its doors in 1989.
Since its inception, SYNERGI has had a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math education focus. Students in SYNERGI have been able to take Dual Credit college/high school courses for some time, but have only recently been able to pursue an Associate's Degree or Certification with those courses through SISD's partnership with EPCC.
In its newest iteration of SYNERGI4, the Academy and its stakeholders has adopted the P-TECH model for all its students in an effort to provide SYNERGI4ites with college-credit accelerated instruction and opportunities for work-based learning. According to the Texas Education Agency's P-TECH Blueprint:
Pathways in Technology Early College High Schools (P-TECH) are open-enrollment programs that allow students least likely to attend college or who wish to accelerate completion of high school, to combine high school courses and college-level courses while participating in rigorous and accelerated instruction. P-TECH also offers students the opportunity to engage in work-based learning at every grade level.
