Socorro Independent School District (SISD) partners with El Paso Community College (EPCC) to offer our students dual credit opportunities. Socorro ISD CTE has entered into partnership with Texas State Technical College (TSTC) to support dual credit for those interested in the Automotive Service industry. Many of our students achieve substantial college credits, college certificates and degrees while in high school.

College Readiness is achieved through different measures to include state End Of Course (EOC) scores, but primarily through achievement when by taking the Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA)2. SISD provides all students in grades 6-12 with a preparation resource that can be accessed through their my.sisd.net account. Currently, we prescribe to Edgenuity College Preparatory software solution to support our students to successfully challenge the TSIA2. Students have access to the preparation curriculum for TSIA2, ACT, SAT, and ASVAB military aptitude tests.

Students who enroll in a Workforce Education Manual (WECM) program such as Automotive, Fire Science, or Diesel Technology do not have a required qualifying test scores until they complete the certificate course level. They are though required to take the TSIA2.

Completion of ApplyTexas and the Early Admissions forms are required to participate as an EPCC student.

Most dual credit courses are taught by college credentialed instructors who are employees for Socorro ISD. Some courses are taught online by EPCC faculty and facilitated at the high school by a SISD employee. Students who are part of an Early College High School program will take some of their coursework at EPCC with college faculty. Many students graduate with their associate degree at the end of their Junior year of high school or after the first semester of their Senior year. These students take additional coursework at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). This coursework applies toward their bachelorette degree.

Currently, there is no cost to the student for tuition and books. SISD works diligently to ensure that students have an opportunity to have transportation for all coursework coordinated through the district.
